Carilion Dental Care is a unique service providing hospital dentistry to patients with medical, physical and developmental disabilities.
In 1980, Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital established a hospital-based dental program to provide care to patients who require
specialized treatment in the hospital setting. Since then, Carilion Dental Care has grown steadily and now occupies a modern, spacious
office, completely accessible for both wheelchairs and stretchers.

- Comprehensive oral evaluations prior to head and neck cancer surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and heart valve replacements
- Restoration of oral functions and appearances after head and neck surgery
- Multidisciplinary treatment for patients with cleft lip and palate deformities
- Comprehensive general dental care under general anesthesia
- Bedside consultation
- Dental implants
- Specialized monitoring equipment in all treatment rooms

Who is a Special Patient?
Patients referred by their physician or dentist to Carilion Dental Care need oral evaluation and treatment due to an underlying
medical condition, such as:
- Cancer
- Cardiovascular and renal disease
- Cleft lip and palate deformities
- Bleeding disorders
- Diabetes
- Strokes
- Patients who are wheelchair-bound or bed-ridden, those with prosthetic heart valves, and children and adults who are mentally disabled are also patients of this service.
